ICASA issues updated DTT regulations

JOHANNESBURG — The Independent Communications Authority of South Africa (ICASA) has published, in the Government Gazette, updated regulations related to digital terrestrial television (DTT) broadcasting in the country.
The purpose of these Regulations is to:
- promote diversity and competition on the DTT platform;
- prescribe conditions for the assignment of channel capacity in Multiplex 3;
- prescribe conditions for the assignment of excess channel capacity in Multiplex 1; and
- prescribe the procedure for the authorisation of digital television channels on Multiplex 3.
ICASA is the regulator for the South African communications, broadcasting and postal services sector.
