According to The Nation, Sri Lanka’s Minister of Mass Media and Information, Keheliya Rambukwella, has announced at the country’s weekly Cabinet press briefing that Sri Lanka is planning to completely switch to digital terrestrial television broadcasting by 2020.

Switch over will be phased in over a five year period with the country’s Northern and Western provinces switching over in 2016, followed by the rest of the country four years later.

Sri Lanka has chosen the ISDB-T standard for its broadcasting.

The Digitalization of Terrestrial Television Broadcasting Project (Ru-Sankya) is supported by a loan of JPY 13,717 million (US$130 million) provided through the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA).
