Tricolor TV launches pilot Ultra HD 4K channel

Russian satellite television service provider, Tricolor TV, has announced that it has begun broadcasting a pilot channel in Ultra HD – a first for Russia. The channel is broadcast with 4K resolution (3840 × 2160 pixels) at 60 frames per second, using HEVC/H.265 compression.
The channel includes opera recordings, nature documentaries and car racing clips in order to demonstrate the advantages of the higher resolution format.
The channel is broadcast in the clear on Eutelsat 36A/36B at 36.0°E.
