IRVINE, Calif. — Teridian Semiconductor today announced that Sling Media Inc., the makers of the award-winning Slingbox™ family of placeshifting products, has ramped production of the new Slingbox SOLO, with Teridian’s Fast Ethernet PHY IC – 78Q2123.
“Sling Media is a pioneer and leader of the ‘placeshifting’ technologies that give consumers the freedom to view their television programming on a variety of computing displays anywhere Internet access is available,” said Tom Kapucija, director of marketing for Teridian’s network products. “It has been our pleasure to support Sling Media with our PHY products and with over 35 years as an IC supplier, we are pleased to continue demonstrating our commitment and reliability to the consumer electronics space.”
“Teridian’s IC solution provides our Slingbox products with the network performance required to deliver the best possible experience when watching TV on a laptop computer or mobile phone,” said Raghu Tarra, VP of Engineering for Sling Media. “The 78Q2123 PHY offers an attractive total cost of implementation when comparing the number of passive components required with the smallest overall device and PCB footprint,.”
Teridian Semiconductor’s family of Consumer Video and Audio devices includes the 78Q2123 – the world’s smallest footprint Ethernet IC, 73S80xx – the world’s broadest Smart Card Reader portfolio for conditional access, 73M1822 – the world’s only single package Si DAA soft modem solution and AVPro5xxx – a selection of Universal and SCART Audio Video Switches.
Housed in a 32-lead QFN package, the 78Q2123 MicroPHY is the smallest Fast Ethernet PHY available that provides a full 802.3 Media Independent Interface (MII) to the system Media Access Controller. With Auto-MDI/X, the 78Q2123 is ideal for consumer applications. The 78Q2123 also has very low power requirements with a lower external BOM (Bill of Material) component count and associated overall system cost than alternative products.
