GMA Network to offer TV dongles rather than STBs for DTT in the Philippines

According to an announcement made by GMA Network in the Philippines, the company plans to distribute TV dongles rather than set-top boxes to supports its transition to digital television broadcasting. The dongles have been developed internally by GMA based on patented technology.
The company said that it it would spend PhP 2 to 3 billion (~$45m-$70m) on infrastructure alone as part of the rollout.
GMA Network is the leading broadcasting company in the Philippines. It operates a network of 47 Very High Frequency (VHF), 33 Ultra High Frequency (UHF) television stations and 24 radio stations throughout the country.
