Trilinear Technologies, Inc. releases first intellectual property core in digital video decoder family

LAKE OSWEGO, OR — Trilinear Technologies, Inc., today announced the availability of the first in the M-series family of digital video intellectual property (IP) cores. The M2 is Trilinear’s high-definition MPEG-2 Video Decoder Core for integration into customer ASIC or FPGA projects. Trilinear’s digital video decoder is fully compliant with the ISO/IEC 13818-2 standard and is capable of processing Main Profile @ High Level, high-definition MPEG-2 bit streams.

The M2 supports all 18 ATSC (Advanced TV Systems Committee) formats including 720p and 1080i in addition to all standard definition formats. Digital video bit streams may be directly written to the core through the integrated AMBA AHB 2.0 host interface or, alternatively, fetched via a DMA engine directly from external memory. The core offers an enhanced DDR-SDRAM interface, with speeds of up to 266 MHz and up to 256 MB of addressable memory space.

The M2 digital video decoder is included in the Vantage evaluation kit. The Vantage system provides a complete development and evaluation platform that includes an integrated 32-bit processor and support system. Using the included binary driver libraries, the Vantage platform allows for comprehensive evaluation using customer developed applications. By eliminating prepackaged demonstrations, Vantage provides a working system to demonstrate and evaluate the full capabilities of Trilinear’s intellectual property cores.

Trilinear Technologies offers a unique licensing model which provides an unlimited use, source code license with a cost comparable to a typical single use license. The source code for the M2 decoder supports both FPGA and ASIC implementations and can be ported from FPGA to ASIC or ASIC to FPGA with no modification required. C reference software from the Vantage evaluation system is also included as a part of the license as well as a full suite of detailed documentation.

Trilinear Technologies will continue to deliver video compression solutions in 2008 with the release of the upcoming M4 decoder supporting the H.264 standard.
