LAS VEGAS, NEVADA — NAB 2008 — Irdeto (JSE: NPN), a leading expert in content and business model protection solutions and services, announced today that it has deployed its DVB conditional access (CA) system at WIND Telecom to secure pay-TV programming and services across the operator’s wireless MMDS (Multichannel Multipoint Distribution Service) network, called WIND TV.

WIND Telecom, the newest telecommunications company to emerge in the Dominican Republic, provides Internet and voice services to its customers using a combination of WiMax, microwave and fiber optic networks, and transmits subscription and pay-per-view video services via MMDS. The operator, who offers the largest variety of channels available in its service area, guarantees satisfaction in quality, cost and delivery for both enterprise and consumer customers.

“Enabling us to protect our content and sell it to customers in a variety of different ways is critical to ensure the success of WIND Telecom services,” said Manuel E. Bonilla, CEO for WIND Telecom. “WIND Telecom selected Irdeto based on the company’s robust security solutions, rolling smart card strategy and proven reputation for customer support excellence.”

WIND Telecom uses its Irdeto DVB CA system to protect and monetize a range of nearly 100 basic and premium subscription video services and 50 channels of digital audio offered to consumers. In addition, WIND TV offers twelve channels of ordered pay-per-view (OPPV) services. The company also supports educational video projects and programming across the Dominican Republic.

“WIND Telecom is typical of highly innovative new market entrants who need proven and reliable technology solutions to support their quick deployment and growth,” said Doug Lowther, senior vice president of sales and marketing for Irdeto. “Having deployed more than 400 different content and business model protection systems globally, Irdeto can offer companies like WIND Telecom peace of mind that their deployments will go smoothly. Where Irdeto really adds additional value is in our ability to partner with our customers on how to further develop their business model with revenue – and loyalty-generating services like PPV, PVR, Push VOD and IP-hybrid services. We look forward to working with WIND Telecom in this way to ensure the success of their business.”

WIND Telecom launched commercial services in February 2008 within the City of Santo Domingo with plans to extend coverage to Santiago by the end of 2008.
