Widevine Cypher® 4.2 Enables Video Operators to Utilize Multi-Room DVR and NAT to Secure an Authorized Service Domain

SEATTLE, WA — Widevine Technologies, the only provider of multiformat and multiplatform DRM and digital copy protection solutions, today announced expanded capabilities for operators to quickly and affordably secure content between multiple devices within an in-home network using Cypher 4.2. The new release adds hardware acceleration within the Sigma Designs (NASDAQ: SIGM) 8364 secure processor on the Cisco (NASDAQ: CSCO) line of IP STBs and DVRs to support enhanced services such as multi-room DVR. It also includes support for network address translation (NAT) for unlimited expansion of the consumer domain to accommodate STBs, DVRs, PCs, handsets and portable media players.

Widevine Cypher’s ability to support both hardware acceleration for additional service capacity on consumer devices and NAT for low cost expansion of the service domain is unique in the industry. Operator demand to deliver compelling services to multiple devices using a multiplatform content protection solution is at an all time high — driven by the business requirement to maintain premium studio and broadcaster content licenses. Greater processing demand for new services requires content protection integrated into a secure processor. While general availability of public IP addresses is at an all time low, now more than ever operators must look at ways to more efficiently allocate IP addresses in an expanded service domain.

“Expanding video offerings to multiple devices requires a content protection solution that can flexibly accommodate new services and devices while keeping costs low,” said Matt Cannard, VP of Marketing at Widevine. “Widevine solves both the operator and consumer pains with a multiplatform and multiformat content protection solution which enables new or existing operators to connect STBs, PVRs, PCs or portable media players to any set of services.”

Cypher 4.2 is available immediately for telco, cable, satellite, internet and mobile operators to secure the distribution and consumption of premium content on multiple devices using multiple formats. It also includes support for the Motorola (NYSE: MOT) VIP 1960 and Entone Hydra HD IP video gateway.

“The convergence of media, networks and the digital home has progressed to the point where consumers expect to access video services and content anytime from anywhere,” says Steve Hawley, Sr IPTV Analyst for Multimedia Research Group Inc. “Widevine’s product line allows video service providers to secure the delivery of digital media content to a range of network-enabled consumer devices.”
