High Performance Gateway Features VDSL2/ADSL2+ Ultra-Broadband Delivery, Along With Ethernet, Wireless, MoCA, and HPNA Support to Power the Next-Generation Digital Home

ANAHEIM, CA — TelcoTV 08 — Actiontec Electronics today unveiled a new line of triple play VDSL2/ADSL2+ Universal DSL Wireless Gateways designed to fuel the next generation of high-speed data, HDTV, and Voice over IP services. The advanced gateway offers throughput speeds up to 100 Mbps upstream and downstream over existing copper access lines — enabling carriers to deploy ultra-broadband service via any access architecture including CO-based DSLAM, remote DSLAM, or FTTx and any access protocol (ATM or PTM). Actiontec will showcase the new Universal DSL Gateway, along with other broadband-connectivity solutions, at TelcoTV 2008 from November 11-13 at the Anaheim Convention Center in Orange County, CA, Booth 959.

The Universal DSL Gateway also leverages Broadcom’s PhyR™ impulse noise protection and physical layer retransmission technology to enhance bit error rates and latency for better IPTV performance. PhyR technology can yield a ten-fold improvement in impulse noise resilience and up to a 15 percent service reach improvement — enabling carriers to significantly improve their IPTV and high-speed data services, extend their network service area, and deliver triple play services to more subscribers.

“With applications such as broadband video streaming, HDTV programming, online gaming, VoIP, and rich media social networking sites, today’s consumers are looking for greater bandwidth and a higher quality digital experience throughout their home,” said Brian Henrichs, Actiontec Vice President of Business Development. “By combining VDSL2/ADSL2+ universal ultra-broadband technology, high-end processing power, and rich home networking connectivity options, the new Universal DSL Gateway enables carriers to deploy next-generation services with ease.”

The Universal Gateway integrates a high performance ADSL2+/VDSL/VDSL2 modem, 4 port Ethernet switch, 802.11b/g/n wireless router, and firewall into a sleek, easy-to-use device — effectively reducing clutter in the home network and eliminating the need to purchase separate devices. Advanced processing power ensures the device can simultaneously support a wide range of demanding multimedia applications, including HDTV, standard TV, Voice over WiFi, media sharing, and online gaming.

In addition to standard Ethernet and WiFi (with easy-to-use WPS WiFi Protected Setup) connectivity, the Universal Gateway provides enhanced networking options for distributing premium content, such as multiple high definition video streams, throughout the digital home. Support for MoCA (Multimedia over Coax Alliance) and HPNA3 (HomePNA) enables high-quality, in-home distribution of HDTV and other content over existing coaxial cables to set-top boxes or other video appliances.

Features like IGMP multicast, advanced routing and QoS, and VPN support enable cost-effective and operationally-efficient video service delivery. With support for standards-based remote management, the gateway reduces the operational costs associated with deploying and managing CPE devices in the home by enabling firmware upgrades, remote provisioning, monitoring and diagnostics. Carriers are able to remotely help customers diagnose and resolve problems in the home network and configure new services — without costly truck rolls. In addition to lowered operations costs, remote management ensures faster time to resolution to give customers an enhanced, trouble-free experience as they migrate to media-rich, triple play services.
