Corel® WinDVD® Receives AVCREC™ Certification
Friday, January 9th, 2009OTTAWA — Corel Corporation (NASDAQ:CREL) (TSX:CRE) today announced that Corel® WinDVD®, the world’s number one DVD and video playback software, has received AVCREC™ Certification. By receiving AVCREC Certification, Corel WinDVD has passed the stringent guidelines set by the Blu-ray Disc Association, ensuring superior playback of high-definition content on DVDs.
AVCREC compresses high-definition images using the MPEG-4 AVC (H.264) format, enabling WinDVD users to playback the recording of high-definition video from DVD recordable discs. As a result, users can now more affordably produce their own high-definition home movies or use AVCREC supported DVRs with AACS protection to record their favorite HDTV programs, burn them to DVD and play them back using WinDVD.
“Corel is committed to making it easier for users to enjoy the full benefits of a high-definition experience, particularly as more and more consumers embrace HD technologies in their camcorders, televisions and playback devices,” said Denise MacDonell Senior Director Product Management, Digital Media at Corel. “With WinDVD’s support for AVCREC, we now offer consumers a more cost-effective option for viewing HD content on DVDs – all while providing the superior playback experience they have come to enjoy.”
Corel WinDVD with AVCREC Certification is now available to OEMs. Retail availability will begin in spring 2009.
