LISBON — ZON Multimedia Serviços de Telecomunicações e Multimédia, SGPS, S.A. (Lisbon:ZON) has released an operating update ahead of its 4Q08 Consolidated Results Announcement.
By the end of 4Q08, more than 23% of ZON’s cable customers subscribed to triple play services, compared with just 6% at the end of 4Q07. The launch of ZON3 bundles in May 2008 has been a commercial success and explains the record numbers in terms of broadband and voice net adds.
Basic TV subscribers were 1.525 million at the end of December, representing a decline of 1% year-on-year; Net adds of (14) thousand in 4Q08 reflect a combination of continued growth in cable customers and a reduction in satellite customers, an improvement from 3Q08 numbers of (18) thousand.
The number of customers who subscribe to ZON’s digital extended package increased by 50 thousand customers in 4Q08, to 496 thousand subscribers and by the end of 2008, 91 thousand ZON boxes had been installed at customer premises (100 thousand by 20 January 2009), a clear sign of how ZON customers have warmed to exciting new TV features and functionalities such as High Definition channels, personal video recording and the new electronic programming guide.
