Romania proposes DTT set-top box subsidy
Thursday, March 26th, 2009The Romanian government is proposing to subsidise the purchase of set-top boxes for the 1.4 million households who would be left with no TV signal after analogue switch-off in 2012.
According to Romania’s Ministerul Comunicaţiilor şi Societăţii Informaţionale (MCSI), of the 7.5 million households in the country, 49% have cable TV, 27% have satellite, and 19% rely on terrestrial reception. 6% of households have no access to TV services.
The estimated average cost of the required MPEG-4 set-top-box is assumed to be 390 lei (about 90 euros).
