DTT launches in Portugal

Portugal Telecom (PT) [Lisbon: PTC; NYSE: PT] has announced the start of Digital Terrestrial Television (DTT) transmission in Portugal. From today, around 40% of the population of the country will have access to the service.
DTT is initially available in 29 provinces with the rest of the country planned to be covered by the end of 2010, 16 months ahead of the target date for analogue switch-off.
The provinces are:
Alcochete, Almada, Alpiarça, Amadora, Barreiro, Benavente, Chaves, Coimbra, Entroncamento, Évora, Faro, Funchal, Gaia, Golegã, Lisboa, Mangualde, Matosinhos, Moita, Montijo, Oeiras, Olhão, Palmela, Ponta Delgada, Porto, Salvaterra de Magos, Seixal, Sintra, Torres Novas, Viana do Castelo
In addition to these regions, there are areas in other provinces that have DTT coverage. Coverage can be checked at http://tdt.telecom.pt.
