BELFAST, NORTHERN IRELAND — Latens Systems, the leading provider of IPTV Conditional Access, today announces that it has been selected by Norway’s COMVIE to provide Conditional Access security for its IPTV service launching in early 2007. After an extensive evaluation process, COMVIE chose Latens FCAS and Latens VOD Encryption engine for the security of its live TV and VOD services.

“We chose FCAS because Latens could demonstrate the best combination of functionality and future proofing in a cost-effective IPTV CA solution,” says Morten Støvre, CEO, COMVIE. “A particularly attractive feature of FCAS is that it provides the same ‘no compromise’ security that Latens has designed for the world’s largest Pay-TV operators. This means that we can demonstrate to our content partners that we are at least as secure as any Pay-TV operator, making it much easier for us to gain access to the highest-quality content.”

Latens FCAS will integrate with COMVIE’s existing IPTV infrastructure, including a TANDBERG Television IPTV headend and Motorola’s Kreatel 1920 set-top boxes. FCAS will protect services in both MPEG-2 and MPEG-4.

“The acceptance of Latens software CA by leading content studios has played a major part in our becoming no. 1 CA vendor in Scandinavia, one of the world’s most vibrant IPTV markets,” says Andy Mathieson, Latens.

“The COMVIE contract is further evidence that there are a relatively small number of technology companies winning most of the deals in IPTV. It’s certainly not the first time we’ve been chosen with TANDBERG Television and Kreatel, as discerning customers increasingly choose solutions from the very few IPTV infrastructure providers that can demonstrate scalable cost-effective solutions with high functionality,” concluded Mathieson.

FCAS has a modular approach to upgrading, enabling start-ups to launch a secure service at minimum cost without reducing the future functionality of its Content and Revenue Protection system. Latens FCAS features include:

  • “No compromise” security – Latens FCAS is built with the Latens dynamic security system that has already been accepted by the world’s top content owners
  • Low start-up costs match low start-up revenues
  • The scale and features provided by Latens FCAS can be progressively upgraded as an operator’s business develops. The purchaser therefore has an assured upgrade path without disruption to existing services.
  • FCAS is simple to install and support, making it ideal for sale by local system integrators as part of an end-to-end system, further cutting the overall cost of delivery
  • Latens FCAS allows an operator to select only the conditional access components which are necessary for their business, eliminating the cost and complexity of unwanted features.
