Azerbaijan plans analogue TV switch off
Tuesday, February 15th, 2011BAKU — Azerbaijan’s government has approved plans for the conversion of its free-to-air television infrastructure from analogue to digital. The project will be coordinated by the country’s Ministry of Communications & Information Technologies.
The introduction of DVB-T broadcasting is to take place in two stages. Initially (2011-12), broadcasting will begin on at least one multiplex in Baku, Ganja, Nakhchivan and the border areas of the country giving coverage to 60-70% of the population. In a second stage (2013) additional multiplexes will be added to provide a complete range of channels.
There are already three digital terrestrial and cable pay TV networks in Baku, broadcasting around 100 channels.
