Entropic Completes Conax Certification for Its Advanced Set-Top Box System-on-a-Chip Solutions

LOS ANGELES — The Cable Show – Booth #2001 — Entropic (Nasdaq:ENTR), a world leader in semiconductor solutions for the connected home, today announced it has completed the integration of the Conax conditional access core module into its advanced line of multimedia set-top box (STB) system-on-a-chip (SoC) products. By incorporating the Conax technology into its SoCs, Entropic can help prevent the illegal redistribution of premium operator content.

Entropic’s ARM®-based advanced STB SoC solutions are designed for hybrid broadcast/IP Pay-TV networks to provide security, best-in-class integration, features, and ecosystem support required by leading global Pay-TV operators. By embedding the Conax conditional access core into its silicon hardware, Entropic adds an additional layer of content security for the protection of satellite, cable, terrestrial, IP and over-the-top (OTT) video networks.

“We believe the most effective mechanism for securing operator revenue while maintaining subscriber convenience is using state of the art Conax smart card technology paired with advanced chipsets, like those from Entropic, to ensure smart cards can be used only with secure devices,” said Hans Kwaaitaal, VP Strategic Partner Relations, Conax. “In working with Entropic, we are able to offer today’s global operators new DVB set-top box security solutions that will prevent the illegal viewing of their premium content.”

Available today, Entropic SoC products embedded with Conax chipset pairing technology include the advanced single-core STB SoC family, EN753x/EN754x/EN755x, the powerful dual-core STB SoC line, EN757x/EN758x and Entropic’s EN71xy SoC family of cost-optimized solutions.

“Entropic is focused on upholding the highest levels of security for any set-top device, ensuring content protection is as robust as possible and providing the highest quality and security support available at any given time,” said Matt Rhodes, senior vice president, Global Marketing, Entropic. “We are proud to achieve Conax certification across our advanced STB SoC solutions, and believe that natively embedding the Conax conditional access pairing technology into our silicon hardware will optimize operators’ ability to secure set-top devices that can easily be exploited in the form of card sharing, set-top box hijacking or illegal redistribution of live and stored content.”
