VANCOUVER — British Columbians and Albertans can now experience ultra-high-definition television with the launch of 4K on Optik TV. With four times the resolution of HD, 4K delivers a lifelike viewing experience with astonishing picture quality. TELUS is the first and currently, the only carrier in Western Canada to offer 4K programming.

“TELUS is committed to offering our customers the most cutting-edge entertainment experience, and being the first to offer 4K TV in B.C. and Alberta is an exciting leap forward in the evolution of Optik TV,” said Wade Domries, TELUS’ vice-president of Home Solutions. “With its incredible detail and stunning clarity, viewers will feel like they are immersed in the action.”

At launch, TELUS’ 4K lineup will include TSN 4K, adrenaline sports (e.g., snowboarding, surfing and dirt biking) On Demand, Stingray Ambiance and a growing collection of On Demand movies and Optik Local productions. New titles and channels will be added on an ongoing basis as additional 4K programming becomes available from content providers.

“We’re just beginning to see the introduction of 4K programming, and over the next few years it will become industry standard,” said Domries. “As more and more shows, movies and sporting events are produced in 4K, TELUS customers will be able to enjoy the most advanced TV viewing experience available.”

To enjoy 4K programming, customers will require a 4K TV, a 4K PVR, as well as a minimum of Internet 50 to support 4K streaming. TELUS’ new 4K PVRs will store up to 400 hours of HD content, or up to 100 hours of 4K content – double the capacity of TELUS’ current HD PVR. TELUS 4K PVRs are available at no additional cost with a two-year commitment.

To preview the 4K Optik TV experience, in-store demos are available at 21 TELUS retail locations across B.C. and Alberta, including Pacific Centre, Robson Street and TELUS Garden in Vancouver; The Bay Centre in Victoria; Shawnessy Shopping Centre in Calgary; and Southgate Centre and West Edmonton Mall in Edmonton.
