GCT Semiconductor Develops World’s Smallest Single-Chip T-DMB Mobile TV Receiver with Integrated DC/DC Converter; GCT’s GDM7024 Powers Top-Tier Korean Handset Maker’s T-DMB Phone

SAN JOSE, Calif. — GCT® Semiconductor, a leading provider of highly integrated semiconductor solutions for wireless communications, today announced its mobile TV receiver, GDM7024, a high performance single-chip receiver with built-in DC/DC converter, specifically developed for the T-DMB market in Korea. GDM7024 offers the smallest form factor on the market, 3.8 x 3.8 mm, and smallest BOM with limited number of passive components. This solution was selected by Korea’s top-tier handset maker for a new T-DMB phone which will be released in December.

GDM7024 is the first T-DMB receiver IC in the industry to integrate the DC/DC converter, therefore significantly reducing form factor and BOM. This solution enables mobile TV handset makers to save considerably on cost and produce more competitive T-DMB products with higher performance mobile TV reception.

“By integrating the DC/DC converter into our T-DMB receiver, we are offering a much smaller form factor and cost reduction that will allow our customers to be more competitive on the market,” commented Dr. Kyeongho “KH” Lee, President and CEO of GCT Semiconductor. “Korea’s T-DMB market is the world’s second largest mobile TV market, and we are pleased to be selected by a top-tier Korean handset maker.” Lee added, “Building on the success of S-DMB in Korea, GCT is now the only chip vendor that supplies both S-DMB and T-DMB single chip receivers to the Korean market. We will continue to advance our roadmap for Korean mobile TV solutions, with current developments under way for S/T-DMB and DMB2.0 with interactive service.”
