Sample solutions showcased at IBC ’07

Rennes, France — IWEDIA, the international provider of embedded DVB-based software solutions for digital television devices, today announced the compliance of its Personal Video Recorder (PVR) solutions with Freeview Playback. Some samples of these solutions will be showcased at IBC ’07 in Amsterdam from September 7th through 11th.

These market solutions are dedicated editions of IWEDIA Comedia middleware which support PVR-related features on a variety of hardware platforms.

Record and replay functions are provided in conformity with the Freeview Playback functional specification. Issued by the Digital TV Group in the UK, this specification describes the way a digital TV recorder shall behave and interact with the end user with respect to PVR-related features.

The specification includes end-to-end added-value features such as the capability to record series and split events. Event recommendations made by the recorder to users when they record a programme also offer enhanced value.

Patrick Desproges, CEO, IWEDIA, says: “While PVRs have been a huge success on the Pay-TV market, take-up on the retail market has been limited to date. This is mainly due to a lack of consumer awareness. The Freeview Playback brand will drive consumer understanding and thus promote sales. With our range of PVR solutions, we are ideally positioned to take a significant share on that market.”
