MILAN — Today in Milan, Telecom Italia (Milan:TIT) is unveiling CuboVision®, an all-in-one multimedia broadband device for home TV access to digital terrestrial TV channels, leading WebTV sources, and pay-per-view films, as well as for organizing personal content such as photos, videos and music. This groundbreaking product transforms the traditional home TV into an online multimedia powerhouse offering a broad range of digital services and content via a single remote control.

CuboVision® connects to the TV aerial and any type of ADSL line to bring to the small screen all unencrypted digital terrestrial television content, plus information services from the internet, Web TV stations (including YouTube, LA7.tv, etc.), and access to an always accessible on demand video library.

CuboVision®introduces a whole new concept of interactive television: it is always up-to-date, always fresh, and comes in high definition too. CuboVision® is also ideal for viewers who want to organize their own content such as music, photos and video. A 500GB hard disk stores multimedia files from mobile phones, computers, digital cameras and MP3 readers. File transfer is easy, either via USB drive, SD card, WiFi connectivity or the DLNA standard. Viewers can “browse” through their digital albums in standard- or high-definition directly on their TV sets.Selecting content to view is both easy and instantaneous. The CuboVision® start page features a menu in the middle of the screen offering a list of the main content types (TV, Web TV, Video on demand, My Media, Settings and Help).

A dynamic scrolling news bar offers access to a variety of widgets from the Virgilio Portal, including real-time weather in the selected city, general and business news updates, the day’s horoscope, and access to the main types of service.

“Net viewers” can hop from one section to another using an ad hoc Electronic Program Guide (EPG), against the backdrop of whatever they are watching. In the near future, CuboVision® will turn homes into multi-function networks for running home automation applications, sensors, online payments and a host of other services.Telecom Italia CEO Franco Bernabè says: “CuboVision is an innovative response to the needs of ever more well-informed broadband consumers. This new package is, to begin with, focusing on heavy internet users. We want to involve them in a new experience, a new paradigm for accessing news and entertainment content by chanelling content from the web, broadcasters and viewers themselves – more than ever responsible for creating their own programming – via home TVs. After the launch of LA7.tv, which allows viewers to watch the channel’s programmes from their own PCs, CuboVision is the next step in Telecom Italia’s ongoing quest to find groundbreaking ways of accessing content”.
