SEOUL, Korea — Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd. (Seoul: 005930), a global leader in semiconductor, telecommunication, digital media and digital convergence technologies, announced today it has entered into a letter of agreement with Videotron Ltd. (TSX: QBR.A, QBR.B) to provide Canada’s first Tru2Way service using Samsung’s High-Definition, Multi-Room Digital Video Recorder (DVR) solution.

The advanced features of Samsung’s set-top boxes provide customers with a heightened media experience, including high-definition video and functionality for recording media files.

“We are very excited to enter the Canadian cable broadcasting market with Samsung’s latest products and are committed to deploying these new services successfully,” said Woonsub Kim, executive vice president and head of the Telecommunication Systems Division at Samsung Electronics. “Samsung’s goal is to be a worldwide leader in the set-top box industry by continuing to develop innovative products.”

“We are committed to meeting growing consumer needs for personalized media by offering Tru2Way-enabled devices,” said Daniel Proulx, senior vice president Engineering at Videotron. “A strong collaboration between Videotron and Samsung will result in an interoperable and more abundant home entertainment service.”

The addition of Samsung Tru2Way-enabled set-top boxes will strengthen Videotron’s illico Digital TV service, which provides more than 350 digital channels and practical interactive services to its customers. Samsung set-top boxes will be available throughout Videotron’s retail network.

A telecommunications veteran, Samsung is confident that the timing is perfect for the Canadian launch. The corporation was also behind the introduction of Tru2Way-enabled set-top boxes in the United States.
