VCAS Software-based Content Security Provides Flexibility Needed to Scale with Fast-Growing Czech Republic Network Operator

AMSTERDAM, Netherlands — Verimatrix, setting the standard in content security technologies that enhance the value of pay-TV networks, today announced at IBC2007 that its Video Content Authority System (VCAS™) has been deployed to secure VOLNÃ’s new IPTV offering. VOLNÃ TV is using Verimatrix’s VCAS for IPTV system to protect premium content on its TV service.

Through the advanced application of Internet cryptography, including PKI (Public Key Infrastructure) and X.509 digital certificates, VCAS offers much higher levels of content security than traditional smartcard systems and automatically identifies content security breaches. VCAS is designed for use in two-way and hybrid networks and easily integrated with VOLNÃ’s other system components, including middleware from Itonis and set-top boxes from Motorola Kreatel. Verimatrix’s vast partner ecosystem offers network operators, like VOLNÃ, the widest choice of components and operational flexibility in the industry.

VOLNÃ is one of the first Czech telecommunications operators with its own high-speed Internet network based on the state-of-the-art ADSL2+ technology covering 40 percent of all fixed phone lines in Czech Republic. VOLNÃ is able to offer IPTV service together with data and voice services in high quality at low prices. VOLNÃ TV is a response to the growing demand for entertainment. VOLNÃ TV is currently available in Prague and Brno, exclusively on VOLNÃ’s own network. Coverage expansion is planned for the next months.

“It is of paramount importance that our personalized television model is totally secure,” said Michaela Hajna, Spokeswoman for VOLNÃ. “Verimatrix delivered a solution which not only added to the overall value of our network, but was cost-effective and quick to implement. An added benefit is that Verimatrix’s solutions allow us to easily scale up our systems as uptake of our network grows.”

“The implementation of VCAS in VOLNÃ TV is another example of our solution’s success in Europe,” said Robert Payne, vice president of Sales, EMEA Verimatrix. “VOLNÃ is one of the most forward-thinking providers of pay-TV in the Czech Republic. It has successfully rolled many services into one easy-to-use package. The pairing is very positive as we work together to deliver top-quality content services to the Czech Republic.”
