Filipino Media Conglomerate Enhances DVB-S and IPTV Networks to Increase ARPU and Decrease Operational Costs

PASAY CITY, Philippines — PCTA Convention 2010 — Verimatrix, setting the standard in security technologies that enhance the value of pay-TV networks, today announced that ABS-CBN International has deployed globally the software-based Verimatrix Video Content Authority System (VCAS™) system on its DVB-S and IPTV networks. This marks the pay-TV industry’s first major upgrade to a cardless security solution for separate networks on a single security head-end.

ABS-CBN International is the largest and most successful broadcaster of Filipino content in the U.S., which, together with its subsidiaries and affiliates in Canada, Middle East, Australia, Europe and Asia-Pacific, distributes news and entertainment content. The operator made the decision to upgrade its security platform in conjunction with the transition to MPEG-4 on its DVB-S network and to enable new revenue streams on its various pay-TV networks. Verimatrix’s software-based approach to security offers ABS-CBN a more flexible and responsive solution for multiple network types, as well as a broader array of revenue-generating services.

“Verimatrix understood our security goals and challenges in undertaking such a significant network upgrade,” said Raffy Lopez, COO, ABS-CBN Global. “Protecting our assets is extremely important to us, but Verimatrix has also demonstrated that their software-based security solutions are a major factor in enabling new services across our networks.”

As part of ABS-CBN’s upgrade on its DVB-S network, Verimatrix deployed the cardless VCAS™ for DVB solution. The two VCAS solutions have been implemented within a unified head-end, which lowers operational and capital expenditure costs.

“Our deployment with ABS-CBN clearly marks a significant milestone for Verimatrix and the industry as more operators are contemplating landmark upgrades to their networks,” said Steve Oetegenn, chief sales and marketing officer, Verimatrix. “Software-based security is inherently more flexible to better manage the complex nature of delivering services to multiple screens through multiple networks.”

VCAS™ for IPTV, the global number one solution in IPTV content security, enables small and large pay-TV deployments and supports the full spectrum of emerging IPTV wholesale/retail business over satellite, fiber and other distribution network architectures. VCAS™ for DVB enables system operators to combine DVB broadcast technology with interactive IP service delivery using a single robust content authority, including support for networks where no direct return path is available. Both of these award-winning solutions will be on display at the Philippines Cable Television Show (PCTA) show March 16-19 at booth #66 & 65.
