Finland switched over to all-digital television
Saturday, March 1st, 2008The whole of Finland switched completely over to digital television on Saturday, 1 March, at 8.00 a.m. when analogue broadcasting was also switched off in cable networks. All households, including those with cable TV, will need a digital TV or a set-top box to receive television broadcasts.
Assistance in installation services will be provided by Lions Clubs until 7 March at (09) 251 04 400. They serve from Monday to Friday between 9 and 12 a.m. Until 12 March assistance will also be available from the Helsinki Mission that serves on Tuesdays and Wednesdays between 10 and 12 a.m. at (040) 353 9555.
The services are primarily intended for senior citizens who cannot rely on the support of relatives or friends. The main target group are elderly people living alone in blocks of flats.
