Pay TV in Portugal up 54,000 subscribers in 2Q10

According to the Autoridade Nacional de Comunicações (ANACOM), at the end of the second quarter of 2010, the total number of pay TV subscribers in Portugal was around 2.7 million, 54 thousand more than in the previous quarter and 279 thousand more than a year earlier.
The main drivers of growth were “other technologies” (IPTV), up 32,000 in the quarter, and TV over fibre (FTTH/B) up 26,000.
Although cable TV dropped 8,000 subscribers, the number of digital subscribers increased by 89,000, and cable remains the most popular means of receiving pay TV in Portugal, claiming 54% of the market.
