India's DTH reaches 23.77 million subscribers at end-June 2010
Tuesday, October 5th, 2010The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) today released the “Indian Telecom Services Performance Indicator Report” for the Quarter ending June 2010. This Report provides a broad perspective of the Telecom Services and presents the key parameters and growth trends for the Telecom Services as well as Cable TV, DTH & Radio Broadcasting services in India for the period covering April to June 2010, and is compiled on the basis of information furnished by the Service Providers.
Besides the free DTH service of Doordarshan, there are 6 private DTH licensees. All the 6 DTH licensees (Tata Sky, Dish TV India, SUN Direct TV, Bharti Telemedia, Reliance Big TV, Bharat Business Channel) are offering pay DTH services to customers as of 30.6.2010 and their reported subscriber base is 23.77 million, up from 19.1 million at the end of 2009.

The number of Set Top Boxes (STBs) installed in CAS notified areas of Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata and Chennai increased from 762,238 in Mar-10 to 770,519 in Jun-10.
