Vodafone Iceland has selected Amino Communications’ (LSE AIM: AMO) next generation HD set-top boxes (STB) for the next phase of its IPTV service rollout. The company will deploy a substantial number of Amino A140 SD/HD STBs as part of a service upgrade of its IPTV service which offers TVOD, Catch-up and Broadcast of close to 100 TV channels to over 25,000 customers.
Vodafone Iceland already uses Amino’s A110 devices but is moving to the A140 – which is based on the latest generation system-on-chip (SoC) – to meet growing demand from consumers for high definition TV-based entertainment.
Vodafone Iceland’s Head of Content, Jóhann Snorri Sigurbergsson said: “Amino has been a valued partner in our successful rollout of IPTV services and both the box design and functionality has been very well received by our customers. The new A140 is a logical choice for our next phase, offering advanced performance that is aligned with our plans to deliver the best entertainment experience to our customers.”
Amino Chief Executive Officer Andrew Burke added: “Our new generation of IPTV set-top boxes has won instant and positive acceptance from our customers and prospects, both in Europe and the Americas. Using the latest SoC design is giving us a crucial competitive edge – particularly when wedded to our traditional discrete form factor – and we look forward to working with Vodafone Iceland on this new phase of their rollout.”
Vodafone Iceland offers mobile, fixed-line, and ADSL/ IPTV services to both consumers and companies.
