DUBLIN — Solaris Mobile Ltd., the Dublin based operator of hybrid satellite and terrestrial wireless networks, will showcase at the 2011 GSMA Mobile World Congress in Barcelona from the 14th-17th February on the Enterprise Ireland stand located in Hall 1, stand no. 1F17.

The team will be on hand throughout the four day event to explain how Solaris Mobile’s service offering provides the solution to the increasing demand for mobile media content driven by the smart phone generation, and the business potential this holds for service providers. Combining satellite and terrestrial transmission enables the provision of mobile broadband and broadcast services allowing access to rich media content. This allows media hungry consumers to access interactive services such as video on demand and audio content, when and where they want, directly to their smart phone and other mobile devices.

The past year has seen some significant developments for the company, with the launch of the first hybrid satellite and terrestrial trial network in Paris in spring 2010 and subsequently extended to Rennes and Nancy in France. A similar network was launched in Brussels in September. Further technical demonstrations have also taken place in Barcelona and in Turin. The demonstrations are a showcase to broadcast TV and radio to suitably equipped cars and hand-held devices and the network combines the instant coverage of satellite with deep network capabilities of cellular mobile systems. The demonstrations have shown the reality of the quality of signal and commercial potential of the capacity and Solaris Mobile is planning the launch of similar networks in other European countries.

This year’s GSMA Mobile World Congress takes place as the mobile ecosystem enters the midst of an unprecedented wave of transformation, as business models adapt, new verticals and players emerge. With technology evolving and perceptions shifting, the GSMA Mobile World Congress which will host 50,000 senior mobile leaders from 200 countries will enable, accelerate and direct this transformation leading us into the mobile future.

Solaris Mobile will be located on the Enterprise Ireland stand 1F17, located in Hall 1, where the team will be on hand to answer any queries.
