AMSTERDAM, the Netherlands — Irdeto, a global software security and media technology company, today announced that Stofa, a leading Danish pay-TV operator, has chosen Irdeto Cloaked Conditional Access (CA) solution for its Zaptor pay TV offering. The implementation, the latest in the long standing relationship, will be used by Stofa to protect its broadcast and video on demand (VoD) services.
Thomas Helbo, IP Operations & Development Manager at Stofa said: “Irdeto’s technology is integral to our ability to continue to offer new services to our customers that meet their viewing needs and develop new sources of revenue for Stofa. Our decision to implement the Irdeto Cloaked CA solution reflects Irdeto’s consistent ability to deliver innovative solutions, as well as their capacity to help us drive down our long-term cost structure and to simplify our product offering.”
The Irdeto Cloaked CA solution is a fully featured and renewable cardless CAS, which makes extensive use of Irdeto’s patented Cloakware protection technology. It enables pay-TV operators to offer premium HD content to their subscribers without the logistical costs associated with the deployment and swapping of physical smart cards, saving them up to 50% on the total cost of ownership of a smart card-based CA system.
“Stofa has always been very forward-thinking in its approach to the market,” said David Canellos, SVP Sales and Marketing, Irdeto. “We’re proud to work with them to implement this new CAS solution, which we believe has an important role to play in the future of broadcast pay TV. Its extensive feature set for broadcast and VOD content protection, renewable software client and lowered logistical costs make Irdeto Cloaked CA an excellent choice for new and existing Pay Media providers looking to protect content over multiple platforms.”
Achieving this level of conditional access protection in a one-way environment without a smart card requires extremely complex and advanced technologies. Irdeto Cloaked CA uses the Cloakware technologies like source code obfuscation, white box cryptography, temporal and spatial diversification and complete renewability of the client to ensure its ongoing integrity and maintain strong dynamic security for the deployment lifecycle of its services. In addition each instance of the client is anchored to proprietary unique keys embedded in the device chipset at the time of manufacture.
Unlike other providers who might claim to provide software-based CA for broadcast networks, Irdeto Cloaked CA is the only conditional access client to offer the level of security required to protect even premium HD content on one-way networks, with or without a return path. Based on Irdeto’s unique technology approach and the results of third party audits conducted by respected industry experts like T-Systems Germany and Farncombe Technology Ltd., the solution has also gained the familiarity and trust of major Hollywood studios, meaning that pay-TV operators can be confident that they can acquire and secure digital content they need to make their services successful.
The addition of Irdeto Cloaked CA to Irdeto’s existing line of smart card-based solutions is only one of Irdeto’s solutions for pay TV operators. Irdeto’s mission is to empower operators to offer Media 3.0 experiences to their consumers with advanced, broadband-enabled, multi-screen experiences that drive customer acquisition and retention as well as increasing subscriber revenues.
