Entone, Inc., a leading provider of Hybrid TV and Connected Home solutions, and Nordija, the widget-based IPTV solution provider, announced today the availability of Nordija’s fokusOn widget-based middleware on Entone’s family of Hybrid TV devices and digital video recorders (DVRs). This fully integrated solution offers service operators a more efficient and cost-effective solution that can be quickly and easily deployed for delivering advanced Hybrid TV and over-the-top (OTT) services.

“With the growing popularity of OTT services and social networking applications, the success of a hybrid service delivery platform will depend on how well these services are integrated. Moreover, end-users receive a richer TV experience and operators gain greater flexibility from a hybrid TV/OTT solution; both parties benefit from this integration. The time is ripe for operators to capitalize on the convergence of these technologies. The opportunity is there. Over the next five years, we expect strong demand in emerging markets such as Eastern Europe to quintuple hybrid set-top box shipments compared to 2010,” according to Paul Erickson, senior analyst at IMS Research.

Entone’s Hybrid TV solution supports IP video delivery and traditional terrestrial, cable and satellite broadcast video delivery. The product line includes:

  • Kamai – a compact, high performance hybrid/OTT receiver with an entry-level price
  • Amulet – a full-featured hybrid DVR with advanced networking options such as Wi-Fi and HomePNA
  • Janus – a multi-stream media hub optimized for multi-room environments
  • Magi – a DVR that incorporates advanced features specifically for cable operators, including DOCSIS/EuroDOCSIS modem, MoCA and up to four digital tuners

All models feature DeepSleep™, which reduces power consumption in standby mode by up to 98% versus competitive offerings. Entone products are available in certified configurations for the EMEA and Americas regions.

“Entone’s Hybrid TV devices with Nordija’s fokusOn widget-based middleware platform will help operators accelerate time to market, lower deployment risks, offer competitive core TV services, while providing a platform to enable the delivery of emerging cloud-based services,” said Bart Vanderostyne, Director of EMEA at Entone.

Nordija’s fokusOn middleware unites the popularity of linear television with the breadth of the Internet. The intuitive fokusOn program guide makes it easy to instantly search, record and enjoy popular TV programs. Video on demand (VoD) and network PVR are fully supported. With fokusOn, viewers can watch YouTube, update Facebook and receive Twitter tweets on their TV. Subscribers can email, share photos via Flickr and follow RSS feeds from the comfort of their living room.

“The extensible nature of the fokusOn widget architecture enables service providers to extend features and applications with a rich toolkit, including HTML5 and HLS adaptive bit-rate streaming. Our collaboration with best-in-class partners like Entone ensures that our customers get a fully integrated and intuitive solution,” said Thomas Christensen, CEO of Nordija.

The joint Entone-Nordija solution is immediately available.

Product demonstrations can be seen at IBC2011 in Amsterdam at the Entone stand (Hall 13, stand 266) and at the Nordija stand (Hall 13, stand 271).
