Number of digital cable subscribers in Romania doubled in 2011

The National Authority for Management and Regulation in Communications (Autoritatea Nationala pentru Administrare si Reglementare in Comunicatii – ANCOM) has published its half-yearly statistical data report on the Romanian electronic communications market for the second half of 2011.
The total number of pay TV subscribers was 5.85 million at the end of 2011, an increase of 2% compared with the end of 2010. During 2011, the number of subscribers to cable networks grew by 7%, while subscriptions to satellite (DTH) decreased by 5%, though the sector returned to growth in the second half of the year.
The number of cable subscribers with a digital service increased by 129% in the full year, and by 24% in the second half.
