From the Home to Mobile Devices and Automobiles, NXP Enhances Consumer Experiences

LAS VEGAS — NXP, the independent semiconductor company founded by Philips, is showcasing at CES 2008 the vibrant media technologies that allow consumers to enjoy better sensory experiences – brilliant images, crisp clear sound and easy sharing of information in homes, cars and mobile devices. NXP’s advanced solutions span components to complete reference designs to connected systems.

NXP will feature semiconductor solutions for connected homes, mobile phones and automobile infotainment systems. In addition, NXP executives will deliver several thought-provoking speeches on topics spanning personalized TV to mobile device innovation.

Picture Quality

As high-definition television (HDTV) and big screens have become mainstream, the CE industry increasingly faces pressure to deliver the best picture experience possible. But many TV enthusiasts and video gamers are not getting a “picture perfect” experience because some screens suffer from poor contrast, movie judder, motion blur and other defects, particularly when displaying fast-action video.

Visitors to the NXP suite at CES will experience a truly exceptional picture on a HD LCD TV, which features NXP’s breakthrough PNX5100 video postprocessor. NXP will demonstrate the “before and after” of the PNX5100’s unique Motion Accurate Picture Processing (MAPP) technology, which removes movie judder, halos and other common digital picture flaws.

The PNX5100 also offers NXP’s unique “2D-Color-Dimming” technology, which enables superior contrast and brilliant colors together with a large reduction in power consumption. It is a LCD TV backlight technology in which hundreds of RGB LEDs are individually controlled. They concentrate light and colors in image areas where they are really needed to make the optimal TV picture.

NXP is unique in its picture quality developments. It is the only company with patented ME/MC, MAPP and “2D-Color-Dimming” technology. These algorithms, in combination with the extremely powerful PNX5100 video post processor, make the ideal solutions for device makers seeking to deliver the second-generation of HDTV with an unprecedented high quality video experience.

Any Content, Any Screen

Consumers increasingly want to enjoy their favorite content anytime, anywhere. NXP makes this “any content, any screen” experience possible through its leading component and solution technologies. On display in NXP’s suite at the Wynn is SlingCatcher, a revolutionary new portable media streamer that lets consumers play their favorite digital videos on any screen, anywhere. This next-generation of “TV on Demand” is powered by NXP’s STB810 IP set-top box solution.

SlingCatcher is just one element in the Next Experience Showcase – an interactive demonstration of innovative new products on show in the NXP suite, where visitors will enjoy and experience vibrant media content. Based on NXP system solutions, these products show just how easy it is to find, move and enjoy movies, video, photos, music and more – on TVs throughout the house and on mobile and portable devices anywhere.

Access Anytime, Anywhere

As a leading supplier of semiconductor solutions for mobile phones and the number one semiconductor company in automotive in-vehicle networking, NXP is helping consumers enjoy their content and services “on the go.” NXP will showcase several exciting automotive and mobile entertainment solutions, including its recently announced in-car multi-standard digital terrestrial radio solution, the Nexperia™ PNX9525.

This solution uses NXP’s innovative software-defined radio approach to effortlessly manage multiple frequency streams and seamlessly integrate with existing DSP-based analog radio in a tiny footprint – saving car manufacturers’ time, effort and costs. Consumers will benefit from intelligent signal search, concurrent radio and data feeds, as well as the ability to stream different broadcasts to separate passengers in the same car – giving them their preferred choice of radio.
