CUPERTINO, California — Apple® (NASDAQ:AAPL) has announced financial results for its 13-week fiscal 2013 first quarter ended December 29, 2012.

At the earnings conference call, Tim Cook, CEO said:

“In terms of the product that we sell today, the Apple TV, we sold more last quarter than we’ve ever sold before, eclipsing 2 million during the quarter. It was up almost 60% year-on-year and so there is actually very, very good growth in that product. And what was the small niche at one time of people that loved it is a much larger number that love it. I have said in the past this is an area of intense interest for us, and it remains that and I tend to believe that there is a lot we can contribute in this space, and so we continue to pull the string and see where it leads us. But I don’t want to be more specific”

At the previous quarter’s conference call (fiscal 2012 fourth quarter ended September 29, 2012), Tim Cook said:

“For Q4, we sold 1.3 million, that’s up over 100% year-on-year. That’s means that we sold up more than 5 million Apple TVs during the fiscal year, which is almost double the previous year. We had sold 2.8 million the previous year. So, the business continues to do very well but if you look at the size of revenue of this business versus our other businesses, it’s quite small.”
