According to Alexander Kurdinovicha, chairman of the State Committee on Television and Radio Broadcasting of Ukraine, there were 2.5 million households (around 7 million people) receiving digital terrestrial television in the country at the end of 2012.
In early 2012 the government began distribution of subsidised set-top boxes to support the transition to digital terrestrial broadcasting planned for completion in 2015. Mr. Kurdinovich said that to date, about 800 thousand Ukrainian households have received such set-top boxes.
Trial digital broadcasting currently covers 90% of the country.
Digital satellite television is received by 3 million households, though pay TV (Viasat Ukraine and NTV+ Ukraine) makes up only 300,000 of the total.
