TV Connect Sees ACCESS and Verimatrix Launch New ‘Studio Confident’ Secured Media Sharing Solution to Enable Operators to Deliver Advanced Multiscreen TV Services

OBERHAUSEN, Germany — TV Connect 2013 — ACCESS CO., LTD and Verimatrix today announced that they have worked together to produce a new product, Verimatrix Gateway, which will be launched and demonstrated at TV Connect (Verimatrix booth #173). The solution integrates NetFront Living Connect™ the market-leading Digital Living Network Alliance (DLNA) Technology Component™ from ACCESS with Verimatrix security to provide an integrated ‘studio confident’ security and in-home media sharing solution.

“Right now security is by far the biggest hurdle to the adoption of multiscreen media sharing,” said Kiyoyasu Oishi, Chairman and CEO, ACCESS Europe. “The TV Connect demonstration of our advanced media sharing solution, NetFront Living Connect, secured by Verimatrix’s ViewRight Gateway security solution, demonstrates a route to providing operators with ‘studio confident’ security that has to be in place before flexible in-home media sharing can really take-off.”

The collaborative technology aims to extend operator services to an even wider range of connected devices, providing improved levels of interoperability which in-turn reduces the number of outbound customer support calls. The ViewRight Gateway security solution delivers the advanced security level that studios now expect, opening up profitable new business models such as in-home HD media sharing.

The demo sees ViewRight Gateway enable translation between incoming content streams from a managed distribution network, or stored recordings, and corresponding stream formats that are optimized for in-home distribution using NetFront Living Connect. The demonstrated and trusted secure formats are DTCP-IP and enhanced security HLS.

“This cooperative development is the latest example of the collaboration between ACCESS and Verimatrix, which aims to expand the security envelope for today’s advanced services,” states Petr Peterka, CTO Verimatrix. “Any service operator who needs to enable the broadest range of in-home devices will find the approach straightforward and compelling.”

The Verimatrix ViewRight Gateway solution provides the fine grain control mechanisms required by content owners that are managed through the single security authority VCAS™ head end and maintained across the translation boundary. ViewRight Gateway is designed to efficiently and securely manage the format translation process for both incoming linear content streams and for local assets recorded on a DVR. Incoming formats supported include IPTV content streams protected by VCAS for IPTV and RF streams protected by VCAS for DVB. To extend the applications of this sophisticated Gateway capability, the same enhanced security HLS support is available to extend content redistribution business models from legacy smartcard delivery systems.
