Subscribers Can Use Apps to Find TV Shows and Movies; Schedule Recordings on STB from PCs and Tablets

MONTREAL, CANADA and SANTA CLARA, CALIFORNIA — COGECO Cable Inc. (TSX:CCA) (“Cogeco”) and Rovi Corporation (NASDAQ:ROVI) announced the launch of two new interactive applications, Cogeco Remote Recorder powered by Rovi TV Listings and TotalGuide xD, that will provide Cogeco’s subscribers with access to the TV schedules on their set-top personal video recorder (PVR) devices from web-enabled devices. Cogeco is the first to commercially launch TotalGuide xD with remote record capability. Subscribers can use the apps to browse the TV listings, explore programs, find what to watch, and remotely schedule recordings for viewing at a later time and date.

Cogeco Remote Recorder is a web-based app connected to the Cogeco service to enable remote recording directly from the Cogeco scheduled TV Listings on its website. Rovi TotalGuide xD is an iPad app available on the iTunes App Store free of charge for Cogeco customers. Both apps will require the user to authenticate their access to the Cogeco service to connect with their PVR.

The TotalGuide xD app in the first instance features a Rovi reference interface which switches over to a Cogeco branded experience once the subscriber is signed in. Subscribers can easily schedule a remote recording from both of apps, view and modify scheduled recordings, and even switch to see scheduled recordings on different PVRs if there are more than one in the home. Within the TotalGuide xD app, subscribers can further personalize their service with their favorite networks, shows and celebrity choices as well as access similar recommendations and engage in a “six-degrees” discovery experience among programs, credits and so on. TotalGuide xD supports both Canadian French and English.

“People are using tablets everyday to enjoy entertainment and browse the internet. We’re excited to launch Cogeco Remote Recorder and TotalGuide xD to our customers and deliver to them a new browse and discover experience adapted to their evolving lifestyles and habits,” said Ron Perrotta, Vice President Marketing and Strategic Planning at Cogeco Cable. “Our subscribers are going to appreciate the convenience of using their portable tablets and enjoy the new sleek, graphically rich design of the Cogeco Cable portal, as they engage in a fuller and more satisfying entertainment experience.”

“We’re proud to be working with Cogeco Cable to launch a brand new service to their subscribers that will provide them with even greater access to Cogeco Cable’s industry leading digital entertainment products and services,” said Bob Shallow, SVP of worldwide service provider, entertainment and retailer sales and marketing at Rovi. “We plan on continuing to bring new innovative product capabilities to market that make it easier for people to connect to, discover and enjoy entertainment.”

Cogeco Remote Record and TotalGuide xD are powered by Rovi signature data, remote recording, search and recommendations technologies, offering a unique, interactive and engaging entertainment discovery experience to users. The apps are developed from Rovi’s family of interactive guides that combines rich TV listings with enhanced data, images and multimedia to deliver an engaging “six degrees of discovery” entertainment experience. Rovi media guides enable consumers to quickly see what’s on, find the programs and information they want, and uncover new, related shows and dynamic content. Cogeco and Rovi have been working together over the past several months to integrate and test both apps on the Cogeco platform.
