Russia to add 900,000 IPTV subscribers in 2013
Wednesday, May 15th, 2013According to a report from J’son & Partners Consulting, at the end of 2012 the IPTV subscriber base in Russia was about 2.54 million, or 4.7% of households in the country.
The major players in the IPTV market were Rostelecom, VimpelCom and MTS with market shares of 55%, 35% and 6% respectively.
J’son & Partners forecasts that Russia’s IPTV subscriber base will exceed 3.4 million by the end of 2013. The company expects the penetration of IPTV in the country to have doubled by 2017 compared with 2012. By then, up to 10% of the population will be using the technology.
In addition, J’son & Partners estimates that at the end of 2012 there were 31,900,000 pay TV subscribers in the country in total, an increase of 7% compared to the first half of 2012 and up 11% from the end of 2011.
