Leading Ukrainian Cable Operator Selects VCAS for Internet TV to Enhance Revenue Security for Next-Generation VOLIA Smart HD Service

SAN DIEGO, CA — Verimatrix, the specialist in securing and enhancing revenue for multi-network, multi-screen digital TV services around the globe, today announced that VOLIA, a leading Ukrainian cable operator, has chosen the Verimatrix Video Content Authority (VCAS™) for Internet TV solution to secure over-the-top (OTT) video for its new VOLIA Smart HD service, which features more than 130 channels of standard and HD programming. VOLIA is the Ukraine’s largest TV provider, with more than 1.5 million subscribers spread throughout 29 cities.

“VOLIA is the number one pay-TV operator in the Ukraine and we want to be the leader of the interactive TV revolution here as well. We are committed to delivering the best content and technical quality to differentiate ourselves via offering innovative and convenient services,” said Gyorgy Zsembery, CEO, VOLIA. “Our strong ecosystem with best in class technical partners such as Verimatrix enabled us to launch our new VOLIA Smart HD service quickly and efficiently, further strengthening our leadership position.”

VOLIA is one of the first cable operators to launch pay-TV services using the latest OTT video delivery technology outside its coverage area. It is offered off-net via broadband to new target subscribers, and also enhances the quality of experience (QoE) for existing subscribers. Verimatrix collaborated with ecosystem partners Minerva, Entone, Anevia and Envivio on the hybrid platform, with Azdio and ROMSAT serving as systems integrators for the project.

“We partnered with Verimatrix on this exciting deployment for many reasons, including the flexibility of the VCAS solution,” said Viktor Mazur, CEO, ROMSAT. “VCAS for Internet TV provides robust revenue protection for VOLIA’s existing services, and can easily scale to protect any services VOLIA adds in the future.”

VCAS for Internet TV provides VOLIA with a complete digital TV security solution with robust HTTP Live Streaming (HLS) security extensions. These innovative security techniques help VOLIA qualify for licensing of premium content while also providing revenue protection for pay-TV services delivered to iOS and Android devices, Windows and Mac OS computing platforms, connected TVs, set-top boxes, etc. The most essential security techniques commonly used in pay-TV systems for managed networks, such as IPTV and DVB, are client device authentication and subscriber entitlement management, both standard features in VCAS for Internet TV from Verimatrix.

“Hybrid networks are becoming increasingly common as savvy operators seek to cost-effectively extend their existing platforms with OTT video services,” said Steve Oetegenn, chief sales and marketing officer, Verimatrix. “A hybrid network solution presents operators with many opportunities; however, adequately securing these advanced deployments can be somewhat challenging without access to the right expertise and technology. Verimatrix stands ready to help operators such as VOLIA secure revenue by extending their networks, increasing their subscriber base and protecting their content.”
