VCAS for DVB Enables UCN Cable Networks’ Digitalization Initiative and Provides Enhanced Revenue Security

AMSTERDAM — IBC 2013 — Verimatrix, the specialist in securing and enhancing revenue for multi-network, multi-screen digital TV services around the globe, today announced that UCN Networks, the leading cable operator for the Nagpur, Vidarbha region of Madhya Pradesh in Central India, has selected the Verimatrix Video Content Authority System (VCAS™) architecture to provide revenue security for its new digital cable service. UCN Networks chose the proven VCAS for DVB cardless security solution to enable its analog-to-digital transition because of its ability to support not only its current service offering, but also any services it adds in the future.

VCAS for DVB was deployed over UCN’s existing cable network in Simulcrypt mode alongside a legacy CAS from a previous digitization phase. This enables the currently installed CAS to operate in parallel, serving subscribers who choose not to upgrade immediately, while deploying VCAS enabled set-top boxes (STBs) for new services. VCAS for DVB provides UCN with a cost-effective revenue security solution that offers them the robust, hardware-level security without having to manage the logistics of smart cards.

“UCN’s transition from analog to digital was an extremely complex undertaking,” said Mr. Ajay Khamankar, Director UCN Cable Networks. “We chose Verimatrix as our revenue security partner because of the depth and breadth of the company’s experience in other similar – and successful – deployments. We knew we could rely on VCAS and the Verimatrix team to provide us with a robust revenue security solution as well as the expertise required to fuel the growth of UCN both now and into the future.”

UCN’s digital cable network offers subscribers access to more than 250 channels via the UCN digital STB. The channels are rendered in high definition (HD) with stereophonic sound. The operator also plans to add Video-on-Demand (VoD), interactive games, digital video recorder (DVR) and Hybrid -Broadcast-OTT STBs in the near future. The multi-network VCAS solution is able to secure live and interactive content delivery via a single security head-end, reducing OPEX and CAPEX as the operator expands its services.

“We congratulate UCN Cable Networks on bringing digital TV to central India. We are delighted to be a part of this exciting new deployment,” said Steve Oetegenn, chief sales and marketing officer, Verimatrix. “Over the last few years, Verimatrix has helped many Indian operators meet their digitalization obligations, while also providing them with a strong foundation for future services and revenue growth. It’s a very exciting time in the region, and we look forward to continued collaboration with UCN.”

Verimatrix will illustrate the key role of multi-network revenue security at IBC 2013, 13-17 Sept 2013 at the RAI Amsterdam (booth #4.A55).
