BEIJING — ZTE9 Limited today released the FunBox, the world’s fastest home entertainment console, bringing consumers and families a unique high-performance all-in-one gaming, video-chatting and online video experience.
The FunBox combines the world-leading engineering of ZTE and the video game development expertise of The9 to deliver genuine innovation to the consumer electronics industry, shaking up the home entertainment market in China. ZTE9 is a joint venture between ZTE Corporation, one of the world’s leading manufacturers of mobile devices, and The9 Limited, one of China’s foremost video game companies. Online sales for the FunBox will start on JD.com next month, and consumers can choose between 12 different colors.
The FunBox is powered by NVIDIA’s Tegra4 processor, based on the new A15 architecture, and the superior graphics performance is delivered by a 72-core GeForce graphics processor with 2GB DDR3L memory and 8GB of Flash memory. The specifications make the FunBox the highest performance home entertainment console currently available globally.
“The FunBox has opened up new possibilities in the home entertainment space,” Adam Zeng, Chairman of ZTE9, said today in Beijing at an event marking the public debut of the FunBox. “The FunBox will be supported by a comprehensive ecosystem that encompasses hardware, content and channels, as we are committed to bringing a high-quality home entertainment experience to consumers.”
Leveraging ZTE’s world-leading telecommunications technology, the FunBox is the first home entertainment console to support video-chatting, allowing users to conduct video calls on their smart televisions for the first time. With a dual-antenna, dual-frequency Wi-Fi design, and a Bluetooth controller, FunBox offers superior connectivity and robust network performance. In the future, users will be able to buy personalized versions of the FunBox with customized casings.
The launch of the FunBox will herald the start of a series of new exciting product launches for ZTE. In April, ZTE will debut a series of landmark 4G LTE smartphones, demonstrating the company’s comprehensive capabilities. In addition, ZTE will be developing new ways of engaging users through innovative channels that will appeal to younger consumers, bringing a new entertainment experience for the age of 4G.
