Broadcom Announces Next Generation Cisco Security Certification on Four HEVC Ultra HD Connected Home Platforms; Latest Cisco Architecture Delivers Secure Premium Ultra HD Content and Services to Multiple Screens in the Home

AMSTERDAM — IBC 2014 — Broadcom Corporation (NASDAQ: BRCM), a global innovation leader in semiconductor solutions for wired and wireless communications, today announced that it has received Cisco security certification on four of its leading set-top box (STB) HEVC 4K/Ultra High Definition (HD) system-on-a-chip (SoC) solutions. Broadcom is the first chip maker to achieve the latest generation Cisco VideoGuard security certification for Pay-TV, securing premium Ultra HD content across connected home devices.

With Broadcom’s complete portfolio of 28 nanometer (nm) HEVC-enabled devices, operators can substantially reduce the bandwidth required for Ultra HD or traditional HD content transmission over IP, cable or satellite networks, and deliver these services to more locations throughout the home. Broadcom will demonstrate its full line of HEVC-enabled SoCs at IBC, September 12-16, RAI Amsterdam, Booth 2.C25.

The VideoGuard security kernel is the latest generation of embedded security solutions from Cisco Systems designed to protect media content and operator services with future-proof technology to address changing market needs. An element of the Cisco VideoGuard content protection solution, the VideoGuard security kernel features the increased levels of security required to enable new digital media marketplaces with robust hardware and moving target security mechanisms supporting not only VideoGuard Conditional Access (CA) and Digital Rights Management (DRM) but also a wide range of other content protection solutions including the ETSI TS 103 162 K-LAD used for DCAS and hardware key protection for third party DRMs.

Broadcom’s certified 28nm HEVC-enabled STB solutions include the BCM7252, BCM7444, BCM7445 and BCM7448.
