LAS VEGAS, NV — DivX, LLC, a leading provider of next-generation digital video solutions, and Realtek Semiconductor Corp, one of the world’s leading IC providers, today announced that the RTD2984DX-GR Ultra HD SoC has achieved DivX® HEVC Certification, enabling streaming of highly efficient DivX HEVC video at up to 4K resolutions on new Ultra HD television sets.
“By certifying the first chipsets to support DivX® HEVC streaming up to 4K, Realtek has proven itself a global leader in delivering Ultra HD solutions to the market,” said DivX CEO Dr. Kanaan Jemili. “The RTD2984DX-GR is an early enabler for DivX HEVC and will help UHD TV manufacturers to provide consumers with highly efficient, high-quality 4K entertainment experiences for both premium and personal video.”
“Realtek is proud to be the first to attain DivX Certification for HEVC, and to help drive adoption of the new compression standard” said Realtek Vice President and Spokesman, Yee-Wei Huang. “By supporting the DivX® HEVC Ultra HD profile, Realtek will help our TV OEM customers deliver a consistent, high-quality video experience up to 4K without sacrificing visual quality or increasing bandwidth consumption.”
The RTD2984DX is a comprehensive and cost effective smart TV controller offering HEVC video decoding up to 4K2K and encoding up to 1080p. It features a powerful multi-core ARM CPU, and a high-performance 3D GPU, rendering it ideal to support 4K Internet streaming, direct-drive of 4K panels, and applications for Android 4.4 TVs.
The DivX end-to-end HEVC solution is designed to accelerate HEVC adoption across the video distribution system. The solution comprises new HEVC content creation tools for professional and consumer content creators; DivX® OmniView™ with DivX DRM for secure over-the-top video delivery up to 4K, and high-quality DivX HEVC playback on multiple devices. The DivX Certification program allows IC and OEM customers to quickly bring to market mobile and consumer electronics products that support high-quality DivX HEVC playback. DivX HEVC Certified devices will support secure playback of premium content, and an advanced feature set that includes multi-language subtitles and audio tracks, trick-play track for smooth fast forward and rewind, chapter points for quick scene navigation, and resume playback across devices. To date, over one billion DivX devices, including more than 30,000 unique models, have shipped worldwide from multiple major consumer electronics brands. In 2014, DivX received a Best Ultra HD Codec award from Ultra HDTV Magazine for its DivX 10 software and MainConcept HEVC SDK.
