Tricolor TV connects 7 millionth HD subscriber
Friday, March 25th, 2016
The largest Russian pay TV operator, Tricolor TV, has announced that it has connected its seven millionth high definition (HD) subscriber, representing over 59% of the company’s subscriber base and half of all of the HD subscribers in Russia.
Tricolor TV ended 2015 with 6.6 million HD customers, so it has added 400,000 new HD subscribers so far this year. Currently all new subscriptions to Tricolor TV include HD.
The company plans to move its entire subscriber base to HDTV by 2017. A significant share of the increase in HD subscribers is due to a set-top box swap out programme that the company has been running in cooperation with strategic partners. Outdated MPEG-2 receivers have been replaced by MPEG-4 HD set-tops.
