CAMBRIDGE, England — Argon Design Ltd, a leading supplier of advanced video verification solutions, has developed a customised version of its award winning Argon Streams product specifically targeted at verifying ARIB STD-B32 compatible video decoders.
ARIB STD-B32 is an updated standard for super high definition broadcasting in Japan, to be used for live broadcasting of 8K Super High Vision (SHV) content during the 2020 Tokyo Olympic and Paralympic Games.
It has been developed by the Association of Radio Industries and Businesses in Japan, and includes Video Coding, Audio Coding and Multiplexing Specifications for Digital Broadcasting. One of ARIB’s key roles is in developing radio system related standards in the telecommunication and broadcasting fields.
ARIB STD-B32 Part 1 is a video coding specification which is a subset of HEVC Main10. Argon Design has used its bit-stream compiler technology to develop a fully conformant set of test bit-streams to meet this video codec standard.
Argon Streams ARIB is a set of conformance test bit-streams providing full coverage and verification of ARIB STD-B32 video decoders. The bit-streams are derived directly from the HEVC specification, with a set of ARIB specific constraints. The process uses directed random numbers to ensure that the bit-streams provide comprehensive coverage of all functions, value ranges and cross coverage combinations in the complete specification.
Alan Scott, CEO of Argon Design, stated, “In August, NHK started test satellite transmissions of 8K and 4K SHV content in Japan. Argon Streams ARIB is perfectly timed to help the Japanese semiconductor industry ensure full compatibility across all of the video decoders being developed to this new format”.
Argon Streams ARIB is marketed worldwide by CamverTech.
