iWedia’s Teatro-3.5 Software Solution for Android TV STB Now Available on Top of the Latest UHD Set-Top Boxes from Askey

LAUSANNE, Switzerland — iWedia, a leading provider of software solutions for TV devices to service operators and Consumer Electronics manufacturers, today announced that its Teatro-3.5 software solution for Android TV STB is available for the latest Ultra-High Definition (UHD) Set-Top Boxes (STB) from Askey Computer Corp., a leading provider of smart communication solutions.

The announcement was made at IBC 2017, which is being held in RAI Amsterdam from Friday, September 15th through to Tuesday, September 19th. Both Askey (hall 5, stand C30) and iWedia (hall 5, stand B40) showcase the integrated solution at the exhibition.

A pure IP Set-Top Box, the Askey STI6080 UHD IPTV + OTT Android TV STB, is one of the latest generation Set-Top Boxes developed by Askey that supports 4K HEVC. It is based on Amlogic’s S912 chipset with features a 13 800 DMIPS quad-core 64-bit CPU and a 3D penta-core GPU. It is equipped with 11ac 2×2 Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.1, an SD Card slot and a USB OTG port for easier networking, voice search, storage expansion and operator configuration.

Askey has also developed an hybrid Set-Top Box, the Askey STS2060 UHD IPTV + DVB Android TV STB, that also supports 4K HEVC. It is based on Broadcom’s BCM72604 chipset with features a 7 000 DMIPS dual-core 64-bit CPU and a 1.2 Gpix/s 3D GPU. Besides IPTV & OTT services, it can support either DVB-C or DVB-S2 broadcasting, which offers the advantage of a more flexible business model for TV operators.

Teatro-3.5 is a complete software solution for STB operating under Android TV. It is made of Pay TV multimedia players specialized for broadcast, multicast, and unicast delivery, implemented as input services of the Android TV Input Framework (TIF). Teatro-3.5 extends Android TV with Pay TV functionalities made accessible to system apps through the ANDROID4TV set of additional APIs.

Part of Teatro-3.5, C-More Live is a live TV system app which is launched when the STB is switched on and which gathers all the features of a resident STB app: zapping banner, service list, grid EPG, PVR and Time Shift.

Running under Android TV Nougat (7.0), Teatro-3.5 is integrated with various Conditional Access Systems (CAS), and connected to various service delivery platforms (SDP) and content delivery networks (CDN).

“Teatro-3.5 allows Pay TV service providers to smoothly mix their own services delivered OTT, over IPTV, and over broadcast with third parties Android TV apps and services,” says Nikola Teslić, CTO at iWedia. “The two STB from Askey on which we have ported our solution have proven to be very efficient platforms to cover both the IP-only and the hybrid use cases”.

“Our Askey STI6080 and Askey STS2060 Set-Top Boxes provide the best value for money to Pay TV operators who decide to adopt Android TV,” says Thomas Ho, Product Director at Askey. “And with the pre-integration of iWedia’s Teatro-3.5, we allow them to use those boxes to access their own bouquet of Pay TV services.”
