Alticast Solutions Power SKY’s Linux-Based Set-Top Box Services

SEOUL, South Korea — Alticast, an end-to-end media solutions provider, today announced that the Philippines’ largest cable and broadband technology partner, SKY, a subsidiary of ABS-CBN, has selected Alticast products and solutions to deploy their high-end, Linux-based SKY On Demand set-top box. This new service, which launched on October 18, facilitates dynamic and interactive viewing experiences for SKY’s 1.4 million customers while increasing monetization and customer satisfaction through the delivery of full high-definition live content, as well as OTT and web-app services.

Alticast’s AltiPlatform™, the company’s middleware solution, lays the foundation for the Android-like infrastructure on Sky’s next-gen box. Not only does it deliver live content but it enables integration of YouTube, Netflix, and SKY On Demand, SKY’s web-app based VOD service. It also allows for easy implementation of third party, web-based apps through its HTML5 browser. An integrated mobile application allows subscribers the ability to watch both linear and on-demand content seamlessly on their personal devices, while built-in apps allow users to search and record program schedules and to switch to streaming with the click of a button.

Additionally, AltiView™, an award-winning UI/UX product, provides an intuitive and visually compelling user interface that increases ease in the search and discovery of content for the viewer. SKY is also the first partner to utilize one of Alticast’s newest products, Apin™, an interactive advertising system that includes banner ads on TV screens that enable viewers to get more details about products and services, and to view those details on personal mobile devices.

These products combine to offer SKY customers an integrative, holistic and cohesive viewing platform across multiple devices.

“Our products offer our operating partners turnkey, scalable solutions,” said Dosa Park, Head of Alticast’s Media Business Division. “SKY’s new service allows them to rapidly meet their customers’ demands while increasing their monetization through increased service offerings.”

“SKY strives to bring innovative products and services to our customers in the Philippines,” said Jose Joevel E Rivera, VP, Research and Product Development at SKY. “Our partnership with Alticast gives us the tools to do that and to remain a leader in our ever-changing industry. We are confident that this service will enhance our subscribers’ overall viewing experience on multiple devices while guaranteeing their satisfaction.”
