SonyLIV and NetRange partner to expand Indian viewer base

HAMBURG, Germany and MUMBAI, India — NetRange MMH GmbH (‘NetRange’), the global provider of white-labelled, turnkey Smart TV and OTT ecosystems and SonyLIV, India’s first premium video on demand (VOD) service, today, announced a collaboration. Through this alliance, the Indian users of the NetRange Smart TV App Store will now be able to gain the SonyLIV app on their Smart TVs.

This collaboration will enable NetRange customers in India to directly subscribe to SonyLIV and enjoy an exhaustive content catalogue spanning movies, music, sports, animation, web-originals, short films and much more on a wide range of Smart TVs, including Changhong, Hisense, KTC, Skyworth, VIERA, and many others. Backed with an intent to enhance the TV viewing experience and offer access to quality content, the NetRange App Store enables SonyLIV to expand its consumer base in India.

Catering to around 100 million+ customers, SonyLIV houses more than 40,000 hours of content across genres along with 24 years of rich content from Sony Pictures Networks. SonyLIV recently added new originals to its line-up – Avrodh, Your Honor, Undekhi and Scam 1992 being some of them. SonyLIV allows its subscribers in India exclusive access to award-winning shows like, Seinfeld, Power, The Good Doctor and Mr. Mercedes. The platform recently added a host of celebrated Hollywood shows to its library like LA’s Finest S2, On Becoming a God in Central Florida, Alex Rider, For Life, Lincoln Rhyme, War of the Worlds, Commons and Indebted amongst others in India. Home to the biggest sporting events in the world, SonyLIV, in India, hosts the UEFA Champions League, Australian Open, Serie A, W.W.E., N.B.A., UFC, F.A. Cup, UEFA Europa League, UEFA Euro 2020, Olympic Games Tokyo 2020, Mzansi Super League, Big Bash, T10, ATP Tours, Impact Wrestling and The Ashes to name a few. This partnership is reflective of the significant growth in smart TV adoption. According to a Counterpoint Research report, India saw a staggering sale of around 15 million Smart TVs in 2019, a 15% increase year-on-year. This growth is largely driven by smartphone users who are keen to supplement the small-screen mobile viewing with high-quality streamed content when they’re at home.
