New Customer Premise Equipment Leverages Entropic’s Band Translation Switches

SAN DIEGO — Entropic Communications, Inc. (Nasdaq:ENTR), a leading provider of silicon solutions to enable connected home entertainment, today announced the company is working with EchoStar Technologies L.L.C. (Nasdaq:SATS) to develop additional outdoor unit solutions leveraging Entropic’s Band Translation Switch (BTS) technology. The innovative BTS technology is capable of supporting two tuners over a single cable for cost-effective and efficient delivery of satellite services. The on-going product development collaboration between EchoStar and Entropic is creating technology that improves customer quality, value, and control.

Next Generation Products Expand BTS Penetration

The first new product, EchoStar’s next-generation DPP33 switch, supports three BTS outputs without the need for a power inserter, providing both a lower cost and low-power consumption for satellite delivery to the home.

“Band Translation Switch technology is instrumental to lowering installation costs and improving both efficiency and customer service,” said Mark Jackson, President of EchoStar Technologies.

Other new products that will be available later this year are the DISH 500+ Integrated LNBF, a next-generation, low noise block (LNB) converter with integrated BTS support and an Optical Network BTS product designed to deliver satellite services to multi-dwelling units (MDUs).

Meeting the Needs of Customers

Entropic’s direct broadcast satellite (DBS) Outdoor Unit solutions are focused on meeting the needs of DBS providers in an increasingly competitive market. BTS technology has proven effective at lowering installation costs, reducing installation complexity, and increasing installment efficiency. Ultimately, Entropic’s BTS technology plays a major role in providing excellent customer service for enhanced satellite services and satellite receiver solutions.

“We are proud to collaborate with home entertainment leaders like EchoStar,” said John Graham, VP of Marketing at Entropic Communications, Inc. “The new product rollout is part of our ongoing business plan to deliver innovation and bring unprecedented levels of service to the direct broadcast satellite market.”
