Brazil - Cisco and Ericsson to run IPTV trials for GVT
Wednesday, August 13th, 2008
GVT (São Paulo:GVTT3) has announced the two finalists of its RFP (Request for Proposal) process to choose the provider to upgrade its platform for IPTV. Cisco Systems (NASDAQ:CSCO) and Ericsson (NASDAQ:ERIC) have been selected to run trials of the service with about 300 customers between the end of this year and the beginning of next.
Begun in November 2007, an RFI (Request For Information) process led 20 companies to request the necessary documentation and 11 to submit proposals. Of these, four were selected for more detailed assessment, which was then reduced to Cisco and Ericsson.
The deadline for the launch of the service and pricing to be offered are subject to approval of Draft Law 29 (PL29), which will change the rules under which operators can sell television services.
