HISPASAT and ENTEL extend their agreement for the managed pay television service via satellite in Chile

  • The Amazonas fleet of satellites, located at 61º West, together with the teleport of HISPASAT Peru located in Lurín allow the companies to offer the most cutting edge and flexible multimedia solutions by satellite in all of Latin America.

MADRID — HISPASAT, the Spanish satellite services and solutions operator and provider of the Red Eléctrica Group, has reached an agreement with ENTEL, a leading telecom company in Chile, to extend the direct-to-home (DTH) managed service that it provides to the entire country until the end of 2024.

This renewal agreement capitalizes on the efficiency gained from HISPASAT’s acquisition of the signal management and transportation business of Media Networks Latin America in 2021. This acquisition enables HISPASAT to provide a complete managed service that includes receiving, processing and broadcasting channels, the required satellite capacity, as well as the electronic program guide (EPG) service and conditional access for content protection. To do so, HISPASAT combines the strength of its orbital position at 61º West, from which its Amazonas fleet of satellites broadcasts nearly 800 channels to the entire region, and its high-performance teleport in Lurín (Peru), one of the most important in all Latin America. Thanks to this model, ENTEL can focus its efforts on marketing this DTH platform and on customer service.

“At HISPASAT last year we made a firm commitment to improving our offering in the Latin American multimedia market and to providing our customers a more advanced and efficient service, adapted to their needs”, claimed HISPASAT Chief Commercial Officer, Ignacio Sanchis. “We would like to thank ENTEL for their trust in our project and we hope to be able to offer added value in satellite television, which still has an important path forward in the region,” he added.

Daniel Rios, the Lead Product Owner of home market from Entel, added that “we here at ENTEL want to continue offering the best satellite TV service to our customers and thanks to the comprehensive managed service proposal by HISPASAT for direct-to-home television in Latin America, we will be able to do it even more efficiently in a way that’s better suited to our needs.”

From its subsidiary in Peru and its powerful Amazonas fleet, HISPASAT provides the best and most flexible multimedia services by satellite in the regions for pay TV operators, internet service providers (ISPs) and regional content companies. The company has recently announced the launch of a whole OTT platform as a service. According to Dataxis, a company that specializes in market studies, there are more than 17 million satellite TV subscribers in South America, which reflects the importance of this technology in the region to bring informational, educational and entertainment content to a significant part of the population.
